Can not use start menu

I have just loaded the SP2. Now I can not do anything from the start menu
except shut down. For example, when I go to start menu and try to launch
control panal, the computer just locks up and I have to use ctrl-alt-del
restart. I can start a program from my desk top using the icons.

On another note, the processer is running very slow. I have ran Norton's
Utilities and it has cleaned everything up. At least that is what it says.

It has been suggested to me to relaod Windows XP, but now I have SP2 and my
reinstallation CD says I have a later version and will not reinstall.

I'm looking for suggestions!

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)
