We have installed the server 2003 as a workgroup (NOT a Domain) we have set
up usernames and passwords on the server, created a share and given the users
group full control to this share. This is the 1st folder or share in a brand
new server that we have given any rights or permissions to. We are able to
browse the view workgroup computers and see the share. We have set the logon
for each local computer to be the usernames that we created on the server. We
have even put the same passwords for the local computer as the logon names of
the serevr. Yet everytime we try to attached to the share the error message
that we get is that we do not have permission to view that share. We have
even tried to view the share with a user who is part of the administrator
group.
There are no explict deny attributes set to any files on the computer.
This is on a new partition that only has 1 main share (New Server).
How do I get a workstation running Win XP Pro to authenticate or to use the
local login and password to give access to the servers shares. Or how do I
set up on a Win XP Pro PC the ability to login to a workgroup server using a
username and password, and have it stored in the users profile, that way when
they log into their local PC they are also providing credentials that allow
them to gain access to the servers shares that they have the right to see.
