Can Not Set Word as Email Editor in Outlook 2002

Bill

I have been using Outlook 2000 as part of my office 2000
suite. I just upgraded to Outlook 2002 and now I am
unable to use Word as my email editor. I am unable to
click the check box when I go Tool - Options - Mail Format
to click the check box to "Use Microsoft Word to edit
email messages." The check box and message is shaded out
and not active. Why is this and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can only use Word as your email editor if your versions of Word and
Outlook are the same. Since you have Word 2000 and Outlook 2002, you can't
do this. Sorry.

Thanks for the clarification - I wondered about that. I
wished I would have known this before I upgraded (at the
suggestion of the instructions for my pocket PC.)
Bummer. How do I go back to Outlook 2000 or do I need to
upgrade my entire Office suite: Word, Excel, etc?

If you have the Office 2000 disk, you should be able to uninstall 2002 and
then install just Outlook 2000 from the Office disk.

Word's version must match Outlook's version. When you upgraded Outlook
without upgrading Word, you destroyed OL's ability to use Word as an editor.

I liked Outlook 2002 better than 2000. I thought it was a bit more stable.
However, there are issues with programming and attachment security that you
have to deal with in Outlook 2002 that you don't in Outlook 2000 (prior to
SP2). In particular, Outlook 2002 blocks attachments of many types that
could be viruses. While this is often a good thing (no one should really be
sending and receiving EXEs anyway), it can cause some problems. However, you
can work around this limitation through a registry key.

So basically, I think it's really personal preference. I think Outlook 2002
is a little more stable, but if you really like Word as your email editor,
then go back to Outlook 2000.
