Can not send a new message in OWA with Vista from reading pane

If I click on an email address, I receive a Windows Mail Message "the host
'yahoo' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server
name correctly."

I can send and receive messages if I use the tabs, just not when clicking an
email address in the reading pane.

I don't know what "tabs" you are referring to, but then I'm not that familiar
with OWA, although I know what it is.

Windows Mail won't work for you until you set up a valid email account
in it.

You mentioned Yahoo. Is that your only email service? US-based free
Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, no POP access. Windows
Mail handles POP mail but not Yahoo webmail. There are two Yahoo
solutions:

1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.

2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

If you are OK with using a non-Yahoo email address, you have three other
solutions that will work with Windows Mail:
* Use the email address assigned to you by your ISP.
* Get a free Gmail account.
* Get a free Hotmail/Live account.

I assume you have Yahoo Messenger installed and Yahoo Mail configured as
your default Mail Client (instead of Windows Mail or OWA [which has nothing
whatsoever to do with Windows Mail), yes?

Which should be your default Mail Client, Yahoo Mail, OWA, or Windows Mail
(pick one)?

Hi,

Are you using OWA or Windows Mail?
Where is the "tab" you mentioned?
When did the issue begin to occur?

Please perform the following steps to capture a screenshot of the error
message for my research:

1. When the error message appears, press Print Screen (Pr Scrn) (next to
the F12 button) to capture a screen shot.
2. From Start, , type "MSPAINT" (without the quotation marks) in the Open
box, and then click OK.
3. Use Ctrl + V to paste the screen shot to the canvas.
4. From the File menu, go to Save and save as a JPG file.
5. Upload the file to the following site:

Hi,

How are things going? I have not heard back from you in a few days and
wanted to check on the status of the issue. Please let me know how things
turned out.

Hello!!

Thanks for all your responses, and I'm sorry for the delay as the machine
was a remote laptop.

Apparently, if you click an email address from the reading pane, the new
message wants to be sent from the mail program on the pc and not from OWA.
In the case of my user, the program is Windows Mail (Vista). On other
systems it may be Outlook or Outlook express. So OWA is bypassed.

I instructed the user to use the owa tabs for new message or even better
"reply" to preserve the thread of the email send and receives.

My user wanted to click the email address and send a new message within OWA.

Thanks for your help
