Hi, i am very frustrating when i use windows mail.

Whenever i create a new email by click "To" to open up my address book for
selecting any email address, or when i use "reply all" and want to add in
some more email address from the address book, the computer start to run and
till it stuck, so the only choice for me is to end this task and type email
address instead of selecting email address from address book.

i thought that this is because i got too many email address, thus i deleted
most of it and now only got 700 email address inside my address book, i just
can not understand that when outlook express can take more than 3000 email
address book, but windows mail can not take about 700 email address book. And
somemore, this email address book is just useless for me, because whenever i
want to use the address book, the windows mail is going to hang... and the
only choice is to go to task manager, end this task and restart my windows
mail.

pls help!!!

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause an
assortment of problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am using Symantec Corp antivirus programs V10.

any suggestion to solve my problem?

thanks for your help.

You might check if that program has an option to turn off email scanning,
and if so, leave it turned off. It isn't clear how much Symantec copied
from their Norton line of antivirus programs to that program, but most
versions of the Norton antivirus programs tended to cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, and have to be uninstalled, not just disabled,
to stop them from causing such problems. The uninstall often leaves
enough behind that you then need to run this cleanup program:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may then need to remove your email account from Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

thanks for your reply.

but if I turn off email scanning for my antivirus programme, it creates the
opportunity to bring virus through my email. then how to protect virus in my
windows mail?

besides turn off email scanning, any other ways to solve the problem?

will wait for your advise, thanks

Hi, Gary and Robert,

As per your advice, i have turned off email scanning.

However, the previous main problem still comes -- I still can not select the
email address from my address book.

Need your advice to solve the problem.

Look forward to your reply.

The contacts folder (address book) sometimes gets changed to another
type of folder, in which case some operations for the contacts stop
working. If this happens, start Windows Mail, then click Tools, then
Windows Contacts, then right click in the empty space under the
right end of the Contacts window toolbar, then click on Customize
This Folder, then the triangle, then Contacts, then Apply, then OK,
then close the Contacts window, then restart Windows Mail.

Dear Gary,

I must use the anti virus programme to protect virus. so i chose to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail, so far ok. thanks.

Dear Robert,

i tried to use your method, i do not quite understand your point after i
click on Customize This Folder, what do you mean by "then the triangle"?
also, when i go to this stage, i already can seen that it is reflect (or say
default) as "contracts" group. so after i quit, i found that i still have the
same problem.

pls teach me.

The triangle is the three cornered symbol to the right of the current folder
type. It currently may not be fully set to Contacts, so try setting it
again
to make sure if you're still using Windows Mail.
