Can Not run Setup.exe for CD's of My Grandchildren's games

I feel like the song "Its's me again Ethyl" - Another question....

After upgrading 98SE to XP it will not open setup.exe files from any of my Grandchildrens games on cd's. It will bring up what everscreen the autorun displays but when you click on install nothing happens. When you explore the cd-rom drive, and manually click the setup.exe, nothing happens. These programs are installed on another computer here and running fine. I have looked in several other groups on the Windows SP user groups and find the problem ofter, but nobody seems to offer an answer to this problem the question. Please help.

I tried Add remove program in the Controll Panel and it does the same thing.

If I do an Ctrl-alt-delete the process is on the list but is blank beside it. I have let it sit and it does not timeout unless I tell it to end the process.

I'm shooting in the dark here because I don't know a whole about XP, but....

There is such a think as an administrator account in XP, or something
with a name like that. I think only that account is allowed to install and
uninstall programs. It also is the account from which you can let other
accounts do the same.

If you are running in an account that doesn't have the "priviledge" of
runnine exe programs that would cause the problem you are having.

Like I said in the beginning, I'm not positive about this, but it
may be worth looking into.

In addition to the user account privilege, you may also check the system
requirements and/or compatibility of those games with XP Pro. Are there any
DirectX things to be installed first?

You said those games work perfectly in other systems. Are they XP or Win 98?
Finally, try boot into Safe Mode and see if you can remove those games in
Safe Mode and then re-install them in normal mode.

Good luck

One of the computers the games work on is XP and the other is 98SE.

The games are not installed on this computer because the will not install. The other two computers are business computers so this one is the only one the Grandchildren will be aple to use. I installed a couple on both of the others to make sure that the problem was just with this one computer. I know one of the games uses DirectX I am not sure about the others.

As far as user account privilege I installed Civilization III on this computer just to see if that was the problem and it installed perfectly.

I would appreciate any help you or anyone could give me and I thank both of you for your suggestions.
