can not run regedit or regedt32

Hello

Ran into an interesting problem this morning on a 2000 pro
machine. There is some virus activity on the machine,
when I try to run regedit or regedt32 it shuts down after
a few seconds. Wanted to run it to find out what was
shutting down Norton ant virus, it does the same and so do
other applications.

any suggestions ? work arounds to edit the registry?

Scan your system for virus's. If you can't run Norton you can go to
trendmicro.com and use their online free scanner as a start to help clean of
the system and then you can possibly use Norton to clean further.
