Can not resume from standby mode

After my laptop goes into Standby mode, i cannot resume it.
The HDD is running but the screen..still blank.

What possibilities can cause this?
 
I had this same problem with my Compaq Armada. It is
probably a hardware problem and not a windows issue. The
Compaq website had a patch for this and now it works
fine. Don't know what brand your laptop is but I would
check the manufacturer's website for fix. Hope that helps.
