Can not reboot after Norton antivirus

I ran Norton antivirus which said I had six Trojan viruses in my
\restore folder. It said to turn off restore, boot into safe mode,
rerun VirusScan in safe mode which would then be able to remove the
viruses. Then reset the boot process.
Unfortunately, when I get into safe mode screen on rebooting, it
stops after loading a file something like: amdagpsys. The computer
then locks up and will not boot further. It will not boot normally
either, I assume because all of the restore points have been erased.
HELP! It seems like the only thing I can do is reinstall Windows XP
on my AMD Athlon 1700 computer.
I'm hoping I don't have to do that.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Harry

Hello!Dr.Drasin!
What you might need to do is update your bios or get the latest AMD
AGP drivers.
There are several solutions in the following two links:-

1]xp bootup problem amdagp.sys
http://www.cws.net.au/forum/printer-friendly.asp?threadid=157
2]beta.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/ Q_20704806.html - 58k
But the main problem is that you can't boot to the Windows.
Neither you can system restore.
Thus only option left -"Repair installation" which you want to avoid.
