can not open add/remove programs in control panel-sysfader not responding

For some reason I can no longer open the add/remove programs item in the
control panel in my windows xp professional SP2.

I click on it and nothing happens, then if I go into task manager there is
an application sysfader that shows not responding.

Any idea what is going on ?
 
I checked my Windows XP Home Edition with task manager and I don't have an
entry for a "sysfader" in running processes. Could be malware? Do a Google
search for it and in the meantime run the obligatory system scans.
