Can not join W2K clients to the domain

Hi all:

I have installed a Windows 2000 server, and promo it to the domain
controler. The ipconfig information of the server is like the following :

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.40
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.10
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 159.198.127.125
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 159.198.127.125
159.198.120.151
10.2.1.20
10.8.1.25

I have also started DHCP service and DNS service for this server.

Now I want to join a client windows 2000 to this domain, but an error
messages said that the "network path could not be found". How can I solve
this problem?

The ip config information of this windows 2000 professional client is like
the following:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.108
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.10
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 159.198.127.125
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 159.198.127.125
159.198.120.151
10.2.1.20
10.8.1.25

Thanks in advance
Kevin

On the client you're trying to connect, try changing the
DNS server list. It looks to me like you're using
internal addresses (10.x.x.x) for your server and client,
then using external DNS servers as well as forwarders and
external name resolution. (I might be wrong, but I'm
assuming since you're using a 10.x.x.x address it's
internal). You want your DC running the DNS server to be
the first in your client's DNS SERVERS list. Basically,
if you're using external DNS servers and your server is
running on an internal address to manage your domain, you
need the client to use the internal DNS server first. If
it has to look outside your network to connect, it won't
resolve to the 10.x.x.x address.

If DNS is running on the DC, On the client you're trying
to connect, do something like this:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.108
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.10
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 159.198.127.125
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.35.122.40
10.2.1.20
10.8.1.25
159.198.127.125
159.198.120.151

Also, check your Event Viewer on your DNS server for any
DNS errors.

Hope this helps.

Hi Yssa:

I try the DNS search list like you told me. But it still didn't work. Should
I disable my DC's DNS & DHCP service?

If I set my client machine to "Search DNS Server Automatically", the DNS
server search list is

159.198.127.125
159.198.120.151
10.2.1.20
10.8.1.25

Thanks again
Kevin
