Can not get winXP box to connect Shared win98 printer

John

Hi all,
I just loaded a new HP LJ4200 on a win98 box and shared
it over the LAN. I can connect and print to it from all
other win98 machines but When I try to connect to winXP I
get a message saying the drive on win98(host) is wrong I
can't seem to get any driver to load on the win98 box.
Any suggestions will be apprciated.

Thank you
John

Just noticed a typo below.
I can't get winXP to load a print driver for the shared
printer on win98 box.

You will have to download the XP drivers for this printer from the HP
website and expand them into a temporary folder. Use the Add Printer Wizard
for the install and when it asks where the drivers for XP are, point it to
the temporary folder in which you expanded the files from the HP website.

XP cannot and will not use Windows9x/ME drivers.

Cari,
Thank you for your reply. I did try that. I downloaded
the xp driver did the add new printer wizard. found my
shared printer on the win98 machine and added it at this
point I get something about driver on host machine I'm
assuming the win98 box(forgive me for not having exact
verbage) I say continue anyway and manually load the
driver. Then add printer wizard hangs and stops
responding after like 3/4's the way through the add. the
new printer icon appears in the printer folder but is
tagged with status (opening) never goes to ready I can
not right click for properties or print. This same exact
thing has happend on two seperate machines.
