Do you mean you placed *70 into the modem dial process or did you remove it
from there? If you place *70 in the dial process, you turn off the "call
waiting" but if you do not place it, you should have call waiting.

Must you be such a smart-***? Some people are new to this kind of thing and
don't really know where to ask a question. The least you could do is refer
them to the appropriate place to ask such a question or better yet...keep
out of it.

Umm if I have a problem with my TELEPHONE I ask the TELEPHONE company, NOT a
windows XP newsgroup.
If I have a problem with WINDOWS I ask in a WINDOWS news group, I don't ask
the TELEPHONE company.
Nothing rocket-science about that is there?

I assume you have a dial-up internet connection. Is that correct?
I assume you used cancelled the feature that disabled Call-Waiting in your
model setting? Is that correct?
Then when you are on the Internet, using your only phone line, and call
comes in, your phone does not ring, correct?
Can your receive calls when you are not on the Internet?
Can you receive call-waiting signals when your are not on the Internet?
You do have Windows XP, correct?
This is the type of information we need to be able to help you.
Others will set in to help, once more information is provided. But last I
knew, if you were on the internet, call-waiting signals just knocked you off
the Internet, they did not give you the option to pick up the new call.
There are several services that will provide you a on-screen notice that an
incoming call is waiting and give you the option to pick-up, ignore, or give
the caller a message that you are busy and to call back latter. Some of
these services are relatively low cost. Do a Google search on Call
Waiting and you will get lots of choices.

new computerand now I do not hear the phone ringing while logged on internet.

So, it worked before you got the new computer - I suspect that you also
got a new modem when you got the new computer?
If you got a new modem with that new computer, then your problem is that
the new modem doesn't understand call waiting like the old one did.
You need to determine if your new modem does what you want it to do,
check with the vendor and they can provide information on how to make it
work.

Hi, no, I did not place *70 before the dial up number. Ever since I got a new
computer I do not receive phone calls while on the internet. On the old one I
used to get on screen notification when someone called and get the chance to
ignore it or pick up and get disconnected after 2 min. or so.Can you help. I

To summarize, you have a single phone line with the Call Waiting service,
you have dialup connection to the net, and you would like to be notified
when a call comes in, with the option of ignoring the call or taking the
call and putting the Internet "on hold". (I know you've already told us
that you wouldn't mind just taking the call, even if it meant losing your
internet connection, but I doubt that ordinary Call Waiting from your phone
company would do that sort of thing, and packages to handle this problem in
general probably wouldn't give that as an option, since it likely to be an
undesirable solution to most users.)
Tying in with Call Waiting using a modem that has Internet-On-Hold is not
new. A couple of years ago, I tried setting it up on my daughter's Dell
I2500 when I replaced her dead modem with a Zoom (brand) modem, and we came
close. It's possible that Zoom has improved their software/hardware since
then.
My Dell I1100 has Net Waiting, as does my ex's I6000, and hers seems to work
very nicely. (I have DSL, so I don't need mine.) It may be just a Dell
thing, I don't know.
Thanks to a feature (Busy Call Forwarding) that your phone company probably
offers for about $0.30 per month, a service will answer your call while
you're on the net, take a voice message, and then give you a popup to inform
you about the call, and offer to play the message immediately or later. If
you have Call Waiting, you should disable it to use this service. I used
Pagoo for about $5.00/month for a couple of years without trouble. My
roommate used Call Wave which served the same purpose, but she thinks it was
their "bad" that ended up with some horrendous charges to her credit card,
so you might want to be careful with them. AOL has Call Alert. Do a google
on Internet Call Waiting and you'll have your hands full.
I like my personal solution (before I had DSL) best of all, especially since
I get so few calls. I don't have any frills on my land line other than Busy
Call Forwarding which sends callers to my cell phone. Even now, I utilize
it in two different ways. 1) If I'm on the phone, it gives me Call Waiting
(on a second line), and 2) If I'm expecting an important call at home that I
don't want handled by my answering machine, I take the phone off the hook if
I have to leave the house.

IIRC, to be able to put the net on hold when you get a
call-waiting occurence, both your computer and the ISP need
to have v.92 support. Seeings the only thing that has
changed was the computer, I would suspect the modem. Check
and see if it supports v.92 or if there is a newer driver
for it that does.
