Try entering smtp.omantel.net.om as the outgoing mail server?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

mac

I already used pop3.omantel.net.om and smtp.omantel.net.om . I have my old
machine with windows XP and there is no problem like this!

Regards

I tried Mcafee and Norton with XP and there is no problem with both of them,
unless there is problem between Mcafee (which I am using now) and vista! but
really this is strange because it is working fine with dial-up connection and
failed with LAN connection! I don't think the antivirus make any difference
here.

I agree with you in that the error messages do not reflect interference
from an antivirus. However, I'm getting very poor connectivity to both
mail.bnreducation.com and pop3.omantel.net.om. This might be a reflection
on the quality or condition of the servers hosting those domains.

You can try replacing the server name mail.bnreducation.com with its
IP address: 76.162.254.61. Ordinarily I would not recommend that, but
in a pinch it can make the difference. Also change the port number from 995
to 110, and uncheck the SSL option. I could not get the server to respond on
port 995, but it did respond on port 110.

Pop3.omantel.net.om has other problems in that it is not even listening on port 110,
although it responds to ping.

In the long run you may want to look into getting better hosting for those domains.

then take a look at the settings in Outlook Express (or whichever email
program) on the XP computer,
and use the same on the Vista computer.

0x800CCC0D errors are one of the common errors caused by the delay due to
email scanning.

The problem with relying on the "0x800CCC0D" type error numbers for
diagnosis is that they often are not very definitive, and can cover several
possibilities. I find the more definitive error message like "The host
'xyz.com' could not be found" to be much more indicative of the actual
problem.

Dear All

Sorry for the delay in response, i was in holiday. Also I would like to
thank you for your help.
I tried all the suggestion, but without any success. I don't thing the mail
server hosting has any relation on that, because I'm running successfully the
MS Oulook 07 and oulook express from other machine with Windows XP and LAN
connection for both hosting server. Also, on the same machine it is working
fine with port 995 through dial up connection. The problem is when using
Vista with Lan. For your information, we have ISA proxy server.

If you are getting error messages like "host mail.bnreducation.com could
not be found," yet the host exists, then there is something wrong with the
DNS resolution on that computer. Substituting the IP address should have
changed the error message.
I'm not familiar with the ISA proxy server.

We're making some progress in that you are no longer getting the
"host not found" error. Failure of the connection to the server is typically
caused by third party security software. It could be an antivirus or
a firewall. You will have to do some experimenting by uninstalling various
programs that could be causing the problem.

Security programs, because they hook deeply into the OS, are seldom
compatible with a new OS. Vista's security posture was thoroughly
reworked (compared to Windows XP).

If you are getting error messages like "host mail.bnreducation.com could
not be found," yet the host exists, then there is something wrong with the
DNS resolution on that computer. Substituting the IP address should have
changed the error message.
I'm not familiar with the ISA proxy server.

Bye

The problem with relying on the "0x800CCC0D" type error numbers for
diagnosis is that they often are not very definitive, and can cover several
possibilities. I find the more definitive error message like "The host
'xyz.com' could not be found" to be much more indicative of the actual
problem.

0x800CCC0D errors are one of the common errors caused by the delay due to email scanning.

I agree with you in that the error messages do not reflect interference
from an antivirus. However, I'm getting very poor connectivity to both mail.bnreducation.com and pop3.omantel.net.om.
This
might be a reflection
on the quality or condition of the servers hosting those domains.
You can try replacing the server name mail.bnreducation.com with its
IP address: 76.162.254.61. Ordinarily I would not recommend that, but
in a pinch it can make the difference. Also change the port number from 995
to 110, and uncheck the SSL option. I could not get the server to respond on port 995, but it did respond on port 110.

Pop3.omantel.net.om has other problems in that it is not even listening on port 110,
although it responds to ping.

In the long run you may want to look into getting better hosting for those domains.

I tried Mcafee and Norton with XP and there is no problem with both of them, unless there is problem between Mcafee
(which I
am
using now) and vista! but really this is strange because it is working fine with dial-up connection and failed with
LAN
connection! I don't think the antivirus make any difference here.

After installing Vista in my PC, I tried to use outlook and wendows mail
to
download my e-mails from the web mail. The system faild to connect to web
mail through LAN, while it is working through direct connection. We have
proxy in our institute. Please any one knows how to solve such problem?

Please copy the complete WM error message to your reply.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
