Can not add printer

G

google

I am running XP SP1 and have recently lost my printer settings,
(printer no longer on the list of available printers). When
attempting to add a new printer Windows is returning the error
"Operation could not be completed".
When opening MS Word a am getting a warning message regarding a macro,
yet as far as I am aware I do not have any macros.
Is this a virus? Does anyone have any other ideas?

Any advice much appreciated.

Lol

Suggest upgrading to XP SP2 would probably solve this situation.

Sorry for the delay. The exact error messages are:
When atempting to add a printer, the error message is a simple
'Operation could not be completed'.
When opening MS Word the error returned is:

"Security warning: c:\program~1\common\1\micros~1\smartt~1\fdate.dll
contains macros by Microsoft Corporation. An error occured while
accessing inline revocation server"
This meesage is repeated for mofl.dll, fplace.dll, fperson.dll,
fstock.dll and fname.dll
