Can not access localhost without password?

P

Pam

Microsoft did an update today - and put exlorer 7 on my machine xp pro -
when I went to open up fp 2003 / Open Website / My Network Places/ Localhost
.... a box pops up that says connect to and then asks for User name: and
Password ... I haven't see this before and can't figure out how to get into
the locahost folder - I've tried various usernames (computer name/website
addy) and it just says I don't have permission to access this web folder
location.....

anyone help me out? now...of course my brother was here today too - and
tried to do some networking between my two computers....file sharing or
something ... would that cause this???

thanks for any and all help
Pam

Try adding localhost to your list of trusted sites in IE7; Tools | Internet
Options | Security | Local Intranet | Sites | Advanced and add localhost to
the list.

OK, ponder this. I've had IE7 for a few weeks now and have been using
localhost all the time and suddenly FrontPage pops up the password
challenege today. What was IE7 security doing for the past three weeks?
Sleeping?

BTW, thanks for the answer here!

In IE7;
Tools | Internet Options | Security | Local Intranet | Sites | Advanced and
add localhost to the list.

Add http://localhost to the Intranet zone, and set security for that
zone to automatically log on.

Open IE7, then Tools->Internet Options
Click Security tag, then Local Intranet,
Click Sites button
Click Advanced
Type in http://localhost in the box labeled "Add this website to this
zone"
Click Add
(you may have to clear the checkbox "Require server verification
(https:) for all sites in this zone")
Click Close
Click OK

Click Custom Level...
Scroll down to User Authentication
Select "Automatic Logon only in Intranet Zone"
Click OK
Click OK

OK, ponder this. I've had IE7 for a few weeks now and have been using
localhost all the time and suddenly FrontPage pops up the password
challenege today. What was IE7 security doing for the past three weeks?
Sleeping?

BTW, thanks for the answer here!
