I have had win xp pro sp2 with all the updates for some time. Have never had
any real trouble with it.

I went to creat a new folder today and this option was not listed. When I go
to the file menu Create short cut and delete were grayed out and there wass
nother at all to click to make a new file..

I know this could be a virus but I think it more likelly that it was me. I
used a regestry cleaner yesterday without a back up and I suspect that is
what did it. I know, I know..I was stupid.

I am hoping someone can tell me what line I need to enter or can point me to
a registry patch. Otherwise I will
probably have to delete and reinstall and I am not keen to do that it it can
bw avoided.

Many Thanks.

Try a System Restore to before you used the registry cleaner. Then
uninstall the registry cleaner and don't do that any more.

Sounds like a permissions issue...

Check the properties page for the folder where you're trying to create a new one..

Simple File sharing must be off.

Security Tab -> 'Advanced' button -> 'Permissions' tab

Delete any 'Deny' type entries that reference you or any group you belong to. If it shows it is an inherited entry, delete the 'Deny entry from the permissions for the folder it's inherited from.

Check for an 'Allow' entry for your username with permission = 'Full Control'

If it doesn't exist, create it.
