Can no longer access web pages

I have using Frontpage to manage and update my web page for several
years now. I am currently using Windows ME and Frontpage 2000. I
recently bought a new hard drive and started with a new install of
WinME and Frontpage 2000. After I installed FP2000 I went to FILE/OPEN
WEBS/ and then click on Add FTP locations. I entered
ftp://home.tampabay.rr.com my username "magicstudy" and my password.
FP2000 takes me to my server because I can see my folders in an Open
Web dialog box, but I can't see any files when I click on those
folders. And when I click OK, I get an error "The server extentions do
not support this action on FTP servers". I think I missed a step
somewhere in the setup process. It has been a long time since I
installed FP the first time. I don't think I installed a web server on
my personal computer this time. I think I may have the first time on
the old hard drive. Do I need to do that? How do I do it?

The way that I had FrontPage setup before I installed the new hard
drive, I could just click on the FP icon and it would ask for my user
name and password, and then it would open up with my folder and file
list on the left hand side. This is where I hope I can get back to
with your help.

Also:
Do I need to install the Microsoft Office server extentions that are
on disk three? I tried to do that but I got an alarm that said, "You
must be a member of the local Administrators Group to install the
extentions. Setup cannot continue". I didn't set up an Administrator
Group when I installed the operating system. What does this mean?

FP has never been able to open a web site via FTP, only via http. FP can
publish to a FTP (not in all cases) Server.

Windows ME doesn't come with or support a Personal Web Server, so it is not
possible to install the FP extensions on your local machine. Also FP 2000
doesn't come with a web server.

Hello, I read your email and I had a problem with my
Front Page after I installed XP Professional Home and
deleted Windows ME Millenium my operating system. I
tried deleting and reinstalling the Front Page program
but that didn't work. But then I restored my system on
the date that XP was installed and Front Page now works.
I then deleted ME from the system again. Hope this helps
you also.

Thanks for the reply Tom.

I have not changed operating systems or the version of FP that i have
been using. And my service provider does have the FP extentions
installed. The only thing that has changed is thet I have a new hard
drive and I think I did not put the right info in FP when I set it up
to connect to my web folders on Roadrunner (my service provider)

Could you tell me the process of entering the info needed to access my
web. I thought it was to click on File/Open Web and then add a new FTP
server with my domain and user name. Now I am starting to think that
this was the wrong way to do it.

To Open live site:

File Menu | Open Web and enter http://www.yourdomainname.com then your login
info, then click OK, then click Open.

To publish to live site

File Menu | Publish Web, enter http://www.yourdomainname.com, then your
login info, then click OK.
