Can I use the product ID of a Dutch version of XP to activate an English copy?

Hi,

I want to buy a laptop in Holland and they tend to have a
Dutch version pre-installed. I can get hold of an English
version of XP on disk but I'm wondering whether I can use
the Dutch Product Id to activate the English copy? I
don't want to pay the MS Tax twice :)

Greetings --

No. this won't work.

Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of
CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are
purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for
any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and
vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full
version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to
install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not work with
an English CD. Bottom line: Product Keys and CDs cannot be mixed &
matched. You have to have the specific type of installation CD for
which that license and Product Key was designed.

If you don't wish to pay for two OS licenses, simply buy the
laptop with the language version you need.

I bought my laptop in Holland and requested that they
load an English version of Windows Xp. They are very
eager to sell and the English version was not a problem !
Ask the salesguys at the store, they will help you, no
doubt ! Don't use any software in a language other the
English, the translations are very bad, including Windows
XP.....I cannot understand how they get to these idiotic
terms, people with Dutch as native language are cracking
up when they see what is in there....same for the german
version...

Thanks Bruce,

I'm going to try hard to buy a laptop with an English
version. It will save time and possibly money to.
