I have a legal, bought paid for copy of Pro, never opened/used.

I'm thinking of buying a new computer.
I can save money by purchasing the lesser level of Windows, ME, or HOME.

Can I then use my Pro copy to upgrade this computer to Pro level???

Please and thank you.

Of course it will work. One suggestion - before you upgrade spend
some time with the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel on the new
PC. It will come delivered with all kinds of "Valued Added = Junk"
you'll not want resident on a new PC. Almost all the OEMs put the
Trials/ISP sign-ups and Multimedia items on. These days you'll also
get Security Suites from McAfee/Symantec that you'll most definitely
want to get off the computer.

If the XP Pro is a retail version, yes, you can upgrade. If it's an OEM
version, generic or branded, you can only do a clean install.

If you have a retail license for WinXP Pro, certainly. However, if you
have an OEM WinXP Pro, no; OEM CDs are specifically designed to be
installed on clean partitions, and cannot be used to perform upgrades.
