I have to RghtClick|Properties|Unblock a Word/Excel file every time I
receive it from my co-worker.

How can I disable this blocking 'feature'?

I have turned unchecked the box Tools | Options | Security re:
attachment blocking, so I can save the file just fine, just certain
features are blocked (like updating links) until I manually "Unblock."

Every. Single. Time.

How to disable?

Thanks

There are 2 options in Tools/Options/Security tab. One is to block attachements and the other is to block images and other HTML content. Have you disabled both of these?

If no joy, do you have an anti-virus program actively scanning the incoming email?

Is Sender using MS Outlook and RTF formatting? Request that (s)he send to
you only using Plain Text.

Ronnie, Thanks for your suggestions, both are disabled. In doing
further research, it is closer to what PA Bear suggests - SP2 initiated
use of the Attachment Manager, which appends a small NTFS stream
(called the Zone Identifier) classifying the file as potentially unsafe
if when it is checked against a list of possibly harmful extensions
(this is the dumbed down me-friendly explanation).

PA Bear, thanks for your answer, unfortunately google groups didn't
list it, but I was able to find it cached elsewhere on the web.

Apparently, in XPPro, it is easy to adjust the computer's response to
this with the group policy editor (gpedit.msi).
Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows
Components->Attachment Manager and enable "Default risk level for file
attachments" ", and then enable "Inclusion list for low risk file
types" and add to this list the file extensions that you want to open
without triggering this crap.

- sorry, I'm not quite sure how to refer to a message directly.)

Howevery, there is no such top-down control in XP Home, and I was
unable to find appropriate registry changes that worked...

PA Bear, thanks also for the info on DEP, quite fascinating.
