My WinXP SP2 machine has a service that was installed by a spyware
program that I cannot stop or remove with Administrative Tools |
Services. When I try, I get an error that the service information/entry
etc. cannot be found in the registry. The service is shows up in Adnin
Tools | Services as started with no other info.

Is there a way to stop and remove this service manually?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Carl,

You need to give us more details about the service. specifically its name.
You can create a system restore point and the search the registry with the
service name and remove it from there. you can also download and run a
spyware scan, for ex ad aware or spybot.

Maybe? But it would really help beyond belief if you would bother to post
just what this service is!!! and the name of the .exe file :-)

My car is making a klank, klank sound can you fix it?

where in the registry are the list of services stored?
a while back I installed O&O defrag and have uninstalled it.
the service listing remains there and I have disabled it.
I had to hunt and peck the registry and all hidden files to remove all
traces of it and I think I got it all but it still remains listed in
the services.
