Can I set Windows Mail up with 2-4 email accounts

T

Teresa

I am thinking yes with todays technology and older email clients doing this,
but, when I set up one e-mail, mail comes in to a "Local Folders" "Inbox", so
I wonder how I will separate my various accounts. Can I set up each to
download into their own set of e-mail account folders rather than everything
going to "Local Folders" "Inbox"? If I can set up more than one account,
will Windows Mail automatically log into and download all of the email
accounts when I open Windows Mail?

This is quite difficult to set up when Windows Vista doesn't include help
files. Even after I downloaded them, the help files for Windows Mail won't
open.

Thank you for any assistance you may offer. T.

Teresa, I have three separate email accounts and they all come through
Windows Mail. Just set up each email account with the relevant POP/SMTP
details and that account will have its separate inbox, sent box, etc. And
yes when your open Windows Mail it will check 'all' you email accounts and
download the emails to their relevant accounts.

There are, however, some web based email accounts that do not use POP/SMTP
which cannot be used with Windows Mail. Older free hotmail accounts can be
accessed from Windows Mail whereas the newer ones can't. Hotmail which is
subscription based (i.e., you pay a fee) can be downloaded, i believe. Free
Yahoo cannot, but again, I believe, Yahoo's subscription based account can.

John, you are confusing WM with WLM.

In WM Teresa, all accounts will come to the single inbox, you need to create
a new folder for each mail account, and then create a Message rule to move
those incoming mails to the relevant folder, Tools menu>message rules>mail.

You can have up to 32 email accounts in Windows Mail.
However, Windows Mail does not have identities like Outlook Express did.
By default, all email from all accounts goes into the same Inbox.
There are four different ways of changing that:

1. Use separate Windows user logins. That gives total privacy, and is
ideal when two different people use the same computer.

2. Use message rules to filter incoming messages into
separate mail folders.

3. Upgrade to Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each
account, no rules needed: http://download.live.com/wlmail

4. Purchase an add-on called WMIDs:

Thank you everyone for your replies and help.

Gary is Windows Live Mail really and upgrade to this Windows Mail. I had
Windows Live. I loved it at first, but I'm not sure what happened after a
month or so, (after an update) I had no formatting capabilities so because I
couldn't figure this Windows Mail out, I went back to Outlook 2002, which has
its problems in Vista.

Maybe I should have found this site for my Windows Live Mail questions back
when the problems started. I do like the look and feel of Windows Mail
however, so I am going to look into WMIDs. I was trying to figure out how I
could do this with the rules before I realize you all posted replies. I
really need to have sent mail and junk folders, etc. for my various accounts.

I can't use the separate user logins, because it is only me on this computer
and I use my various accounts for various activities. Work, family and
friends, purchases and one just to give people when I hesitate whether I am
giving my e-mail address to a legitimate site or someone who is going to sell
my info to all the spammers, etc. I need to omit the logging in, logging out
routine.

If you think Windows Live Mail is a better option for my purposes, please
let me know. I don't want to purchase the WMIDs just to find it didn't suit
my purpose afterall. Thanks again. You guys are great spending your time
helping like this. T.

Globe > Help and support > type; windows mail. Number 2 on the list
is: windows mail: setting up an account from start to finish.
If this don't work, I would suggest getting a tweeny from the
neighborhood to help.
