Can I run Domain and workgroup from same computer?

New to this stuff, so please bear with me.

I have a new laptop I want to use at work and at home. My
administrator at work says I can't run a home network from
the same machine when it is setup for a work domain
server. Is he correct? (When I try to join a domain, I get
an error message. The Administrator says they have locked
out this type of access for security reasons.)

I cannot believe that I can't have one account for work to
run in the domain and one account for my home network. If
I can, please explain how.

Thanks in advance.

You can't change to a workgroup from a domain, or to another domain, unless
you have permissions to do so - and many admins block these permissions for
very good reason. Don't screw around with your work computer's network
settings, ecen if you have permissions on the laptop that allow it. Don't
make enemies of your work admins!

You don't need to change anything - you can very likely connect your laptop
to your home network, get an IP address, and map drives for file sharing &
use printers on workgroup computers if you pass along the appropriate
credentials -

net use x: \\computer\share /user:computername\username <enter>

....for example.
