I have a number of remote users who are attending a conference in a hotel, the hotel are providing me with a DSL connection but with 1 static IP address. I want to take a switch with me to connect a number of the reps laptops to apply patches etc via the internet and want to find a way of allocating IP addresses via DHCP from my laptop. All laptops are running XP Pro including mine.

Is there a way of doing this in XP or is there a 3rd party free utility to acheive this, any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

If you use the DSL connection from your PC and enable ICS (Internet
Connection Sharing) on your PC then this will automatically run the built in
XP DHCP server on your machine and the other laptops will get their IP from
your DHCP server.

Since you'll need to bring a hub with you anyway, most likely, I'd pick up a
cheap broadband gateway/router/firewall with a built-in switch/hub and use
that. I am not an ICS fan in general anyway....you can pick up a Netgear
FR114P for about $80 USD. More protection, no resource load on your own
computer, etc etc etc.
