A colleague of mine wishes to restore the origninal version of a Word
document that she accidentally updated on 22nd September. The document was
originally created in December of last year. Any suggestions, please?

No way of doing this, I think. If you save over a document, it is gone, same
as any file replacement.

If you were saving on a network, you might check with your IT support guys
to see if they have backups from that date, but that's nothing to do with
Word, obviously.

If she has "Automatically create backup copy" enabled and has saved only
once, she'll find the old version saved as "Backup of <filename>.wbk" in the
same folder.
