Can I protect a format but allow editing in cells?

Hi

I want to protect a worksheet's Formats, but allow editing - is this possible?

Select the cells that should be ok for editing.
Format|Cells|Protection Tab|Uncheck locked

Then protect the worksheet
tools|protection|protect sheet

There are lots of features that are disabled when you protect the worksheet.
You may want to check to see it this is really what you want.
