Can I Install Vista on WinXP Computer and get dual boot?

Hi all,

Has anyone tried installing Vista on a computer that already has WinXP ?
I've just had to install winxp again on a computer and get the dual boot
option.

I was hoping I could install Vista on another computer that also already has
WinXP and be able to boot Vista when I want and WinXP another time.

I'm looking for someone who has actually done this
or would appreciate to read that MS has strongly suggested against this in
the
hyperlinked article. etc.

i have xp pro and vista rc1 in dual boot on my amd x2 3800+ but i had some
trouble with vista bootloader but now is ok.I edit boot loader with
vistaboot pro good software for that.byebye have a nice day

MS encourages you to UPGRADE your XP installation on your test computer.
Use the latest build, 5728, from:

Yes, people have done it. It's doable. Have I done it? No. "Why not?" you
ask. Because I don't want the headache of a dual boot system. It is far
better to dedicate a system to Vista testing. Unless, for some unknown
reason, you like messing around with dual boot systems.

Do not install Vista on a "production" PC. That would be a PC upon which you
depend to provide services that you cannot do without.

Yes, I'm running four OS installations, two of XP Pro and two of Vista. XP
Pro is on the 1st partition of the first drive (active). The other three
are volumes in an extended partition on the first drive. Using ntldr and
the Vista Boot Loader. I have been doing this since before Beta 2. Overall
it has worked fine, but others have posted that it trashed both the Vista
and the XP installations. So make sure you only put it on a test system and
know how to restore the system if needed.

Me too. I have XP 32 and 64 bit, as well as Vista 32 and 64, installed on 4
different partitions. Installation was both easy and simple.

MS is REQUESTING RC1 users to use the XP to Vista upgrade scenario. Next in
priority of their needs for feedback would be Vista to Vista upgrade
scenarios. They also want feedback on custom installations where raid and
other kinds of specialized hard drive support is used.

MS doesn't care about multi-boot scenarios except for devs and other tekkies
since that will be an option used by only a tiny fraction of 1% of the
Windows user base.
