Duel Boot Vista Premium and WiNXP SP3 concerns

drybones

Have setup up the duel boot using the Vista Windows setup. After double
checking that all was working well, I messed up an install of a large
program on the WinXP HD and decided to wipe the WinXP HD and reinstall.

But my problem is, that to re-install WinXP from a backup on a separate HD,
(have setup a four (4) HD system for the individual backup of WinXP and
Vista) that it caused the loss of the dual boot and I had to start from the
very beginning after the re-install of WinXP as it turns out that Vista had
became corrupted.

Question: Is there any other program that will allow me to re-install
'either Vista or WinXP' without the hassle of either program becoming
corrupted and the loss of the dual boot?

Thanks for reading and responding.

Hi,

When you reinstalled XP you probably wiped out the boot files that allowed
you to choose either it or Vista at boot. All you had really needed to do
was to boot with a Vista disk and do a repair to the startup function.

Is there a program to prevent it? Yes, they're called third party boot
managers. They allow you to decide which volumes are used by each OS
installed on a given system, and keep the boot files for each on the same
volume so that erasing one doesn't affect any of the other installations.
