I have a website that I am trying to access for my son's school status. I
cannot access (sign in) the site and I am 99.9% sure it is because I am
running IE7 and they have not adapted the site for IE7 as yet. Is it possible
to install IE6 and run that version for accessing the site, yet have and run
IE7 for all other web use?

You might try this download from MS which will identify IE7 as IE6 to
websites.
