I want to know if I can safely disable these [2] services from my Win
Xp SP2 machine?
I have descriptions I found out about them listed below

I'm afraid to touch them because I'm not really sure what they do OR
if we even need them ever??
*process name just means the name you'll see if you ctrl-alt-del
Application Layer Gateway Service, ALG, alg.ex
System Event Notification, SENS, svchost.exe
*

[FIRST SERVICE]
Displayed Name=Application Layer Gateway Service
Service Name =ALG
Process Name=alg.exe
Described as follows
"Application Layer Gateway Service ~ Provides support for 3rd party
plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection Firewall.
Required if using Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection
Firewall to connect to the internet. This uses about 1.5 MB of memory
in an idle state."
[SECOND SERVICE]
Display Name=System Event Notification
Service name=SENS
Process name=svchost.exe
Described as follows.
"System Event Notification ~ Used in conjunction with COM+ Event
System, this service notifies particular services when system events,
such as logon and power events occurs. I doubt the average user really
cares about this. I have also not seen any applications that use this.
You will receive, in the Event Log, a entry complaining about not
having this service

Why do you need to disable these services? Are they causing a specific
problem for your computer?

I am attempting to disable anything and everything unneeded so as to
free up ram and cpu usage. Having things loaded into memory which
don't serve a purpose is what I am trying to get rid of.
Essentially I am wanting as "clean" a system as possible without
crippling the OS.

I hope that explains it.
thanks for all who can help me here
