Can I delete all the website files off my harddrive?

I built my entire site using frontpage and uploaded it to my FTP. This site
is live but sometimes I make changes to it. Can I delete all the files off my
harddrive (since its such a big file) and still have my site remain up?

And what happens if the server fails??? Not a good idea to work on your site
'live'. Keep it on your hard drive!!
