Can I create a "soft" / between words?

I want to put a / between words that will break if the word combination is
too long for one line. Something like " single/multiple use " that would
show as

this is a sentence that has single/
multiple uses.

You have given me hope but I have never heard of a "no-width optional space"
although I am familiar with "hard" and "soft" hyphens. Could you give me a
key-stroke combination? Thanks!

There is no keystroke assigned, but you can insert the No-Width Optional
Break from the Special Characters tab of Insert | Symbol (and you could
assign a shortcut). Those more knowledgeable about Unicode fonts than I
point out that the character thus inserted (glyph 200C) is not the correct
one, which is 200B. You can insert that in recent versions of Word by typing
"200B" and pressing Alt+X. For more, see
