Can I Check Exchange Account and .pst E-mail Accounts Simultaneous

Hello,

I use a hosted Exchange solution. I also have a personal .pst data file on
my PC that I use for some personal E-mail accounts. I can be logged into
Exchange and have my person .pst file open at the same time. However, when
that is the case, I can only check E-mail on my Exchange account. Is there
any way possible to be able to check the E-mail for both accounts without
closing the Exchange account/connection and opening the .pst file
exclusively, which is what I have to do now? I'd like to be able to keep
both open simultaneously at all times.

Thank You

Do you have a second email account active other than Exchange? What version of Outlook?

Thanks for the promtp reply. I am running Outlook 2003. I am not sure what
you are asking with your other question about whether I have a second E-mail
account because I think I answered that in my first post and it was the
entire purpose for the post but just to be sure....

The answer is yes. I have my personal .pst file with E-mail accounts set up
that I would like to keep using with that file. Actually, I'd be happy to
download them through Exchange but the problem is I pay for each account and
would have to buy a separate account for every E-mail address (if I
understand the terms with our host provider correctly). Yes, I do get alias'
addresses with the Exchange account but for reasons we need not get into here
I prefer not to go that route.

Thanks again.

Is the Exchange mailbox your primary delivery point? Is your send/receive settings set to check all accounts at one time? Have you looked into using rules to move items from your POP3 account into your ..pst files while keeping everything sent to your Exchange account on the Exchange server?

All of this is easily doable as I do it everyday and have for the last 6 years using various flavors of Outlook with Exchange/POP3 accounts.

Let me explain it this way.

1. I had a personal folder file set up to access my pop accounts.

2. I added an Exchange account which required me to (or at least the
instructions told me to) create a second profile for Exchange. So if I go to
Control Panel/Mail/Profiles, there are two, one for Exchange and one for the
..pst. And I have "prompt for a prfile to be used" checked.

If I select the Exchange profile when Outlook opens, I cannot check my .pst
file (even if the folder is open). And if I look ar various send/receive
options and try to add a new group all I see are options for the Exchange
mailbox. If for example I go send-receive/send receive settings/define send
receive groups and clike edit, the only account that shows up is the Exchange
one. So I have no way to create a new send/receive group that includes the
pst.

If someone can just direct me I assume the solution is very simple.

BTW, I did not mean to avoid your questions.

1. I don't know what "primary delivery point" means.

2. Again, the problem seems to be that my send/receive works ONLY for my
Exchange account when I am logged onto Exchange but does not work for my pst
file even if the pst file is open. i.e. it doe not allow downloading of my
pop E-mail unless I only open my pst file using the pst profile. As noted, I
tried to change the send/receive setings to no avail. I assume the issue
here that I have two "profiles".

3. I have not looked into rules because I don't know what that has to do
with my questions. I already have many rules defined to send certain mail to
certain folders. In this instance I just want to be able to have my Exchange
mail go into mu Exchange box and my personal mail go into my personal folder.
Since I can't even get to the point where I can download my pop (.pst) mail
when I am logged on to Exchange, I can't create any rules.

I have looked at this a little more and I'm assuming all I need to do is add
some pop accounts to my Exchange profile. It would be infinitely easier
however to add an Exchange account to the profile that I currently have set
up for my pst file. Is that possible? All I'm really trying to do is avoice
creating all the accounts for my pst file all over again as i have quite a
few I use and a lot of rules I have created.

What's the best way to handle that?

i.e. is there any way to take the 10 pop accounts that are currently part of
my pst profile and copy them to the exchange profile and/or copy the rules as
well without having to create every pop account from scratch? That's why it
would be easier to add the single exchange account to my pst profile.

I know i may not be using the term profile correctly but hopefully you get
my meaning.

Well, let's start slow and build up.

When you open the mail icon and select profiles, how many do you have? If more than one, we can start there.

As I said, I have two profiles. One is my original one, which was the one
created for my .pst file, which all of my pop accounts are tied to. Which I
can still access just fine as long as I am NOT logged into my Exchange
profile (see below).

The second is the one I recently created for my Exchange account.

Thosea are the only two profiles.

No need to respond. All I had to do was put all of the accounts under one
profile and then create rules to direct E-mail to the appropriate folders.

Exactly where I was going. Glad you got there first.
