I would like to change the name of the index page since it is also a product
page on my website. Is that possible without creating problems when
publishing my site?

What the name of the default page should be depends on the Server. So
unless you can persuade your provider to change that (very unlikely),
you must change the name of the other page or place it in a folder .

The short answer is NO....
But you can change the "Page title" so that when bookmarked that is what is
shown..

Clear as mud?... The file is named "Index.htm" but the "Page Title" might be
"Cooking with Jed"
When someone bookmarks the page, the bookmark will show "Cooking with Jed"
and not Index.htm

Although most servers do recognize index.html, index.htm, default.html, or
default.htm as typical home pages.

You shouldn't rename the index. What you can do is File/Save as, and save
it under a new name. (you could even use index2.htm). Then link to it from
your products page

You can change the name (title) of the page to your heart's content. It's
changing the name of the file that can get you into trouble.
