I plan to buy an external Hard Disk Drive (HDD) for my notebook, create a
mirror image of drive C: on the external HDD and then would like to be able
to boot-up from the external HDD bypassing drive C:

Is it possible to boot up from the external drive?

I know that if you press "Options/Alt" on Apple computer during power-on it
will boot up from the external HDD. Would ALT do the same for PCs?

Unless your motherboard supports booting
from an external drive, you'll be unable to do
so. Windows XP was not designed to run from
an external drive.
