As I am now on broadband is there any way of setting up my outlook so that
new messages automatically appear in my outlook in box without me having to
hit the send/receive button?

Tools, options, mail setup, Send- receive, set up automatic mail check every
10 minutes and let Outlook run minimzed. You can even set up an
audible/visual notice for new mail--email options, advanced email options.
