Can I add a new field in emails after "Subject" for "job number"?

I have had a request that all of our emails not only have the standard
"Subject" line but also one for "Job Number" which can be filled in for the
reference of both us and our clients. I have added a new column in the Inbox
for "job", but cannot translate this into a new field that you can input into
in a new message. Is this possible?
