Can Color Laser Photos ever equal Inkjet?

I am trying to print photos on my new HP Color Laserjet 1500 printer and
have them somewhat comparable to inkjet printers. As you know, you can NOT
use inkjet photo paper in a Laser Printer.

I tried HP's High Gloss Laser paper (120 g/m2), and it still does not
measure up to inkjet.

I do see 9 mil Glossy Laser Photopaper online, but it is not a brand name I
recognize. It also does not appear to be popular, as it's not in any stores
I have seen.

I have to wonder if anyone has tried it?

Lastly, has anyone found a nice solution for printing photos in a color
Laser Printer?

Ah. So your subject line isn't exactly correct; what you mean is "can
MY color laser ever equal inkjet". The answer is no.

Yep. Professional shops do it all the time. Many even win awards based
on their work.

But I doubt if you have (a) the experience to do what they're doing, and
(b) the cash.

Especially the cash. The cheapest high end colour lasers
run around $5K and their main advantage over inkjets is
that they are tougher machines, not that their output is
better. For commercial work, eg, sales brochures, you don't
need super high quality photo printing. But you do need a
tough machine, one that can do print runs in the 1000s day
after day.

With my experience you'll get better photos with inkjets.
Laser printers using another technique to print, and the page is moving 4
times in the machine, each time with a different color, so you won't get
very goot transition between colors.
On some Lasers you'll get white siloute around each color
However you'll get better results for printing graphs (And similar stuff)
with the laser printers.
As far as I know you'll get better results using Hot Wax printers rather
then laser ones, and they are cheaper in the long run too.

Rather depends upon the laser ... most deposit the toner onto the drum and
then print/bond in one operation. Registration on mine is excellent!

True, but not a durable. Both HW (solid ink) and inkjunks have surface
problems with handling.

A 1200 dpi laser gives a great print and newer units are even better.

Faults ... very high initial cost, lowest cost per page IF you print more
than 5K images.

You tend not to see colour laser paper in stores since stores tend to
cater to the public and not many members of the public have colour
lasers!

To my knowledge HP Color Laserjet 1500,2500 etc does not have support for
high gloss paper. If your printer doesnt have paper type option for
heavy glossy or high glossy paper then it doesnt. Color Laserjet 4600
does as do some others.
