I am really having troubles burning cd's all of a sudden, so I'm thinking it
is due to a Windows update. Here's the problem, and my daughter is having
the identical same problem: I can burn a cd in all of my burning programs,
i-Tunes, Windows Media Player, and any other burning program I download. The
cd, however, will not play ANYWHERE, car, computer, cd player, nothing. I
get a "bad cd" error message. I get no error messages during the burn, I get
a "successful burn" message, just can't play the cd. I've tried several
different cd brands, including the memorex brand I have always used
successfully in the past. When trying to use a RW as a test, it corrupts the
RW, even if I try to erase it after the burn, it is corrupted. I have a dell
Inspiron 9300 and this problem is with BOTH my burners - the internal and
external burner, so it's not a burner issue, it is across the board. Yes, I
did download Nero demo, but I had the issue BEFORE I downloaded Nero (was
desperate to try any burning software). What utility can I run to figure out
what the bloody hell is going on??

Some suggestions :

Make sure you are finalising the CD's.

Have you tried your external burner on a friend's PC - does it burn
correctly there ?

Don't run any other programmes when burning - turn everything (including
Anti-Virus) off.

Burn at a lower speed - 8 x or even 4x - does that work ?

What programme did you install before the burning problems started ?

Run your ant-virus followed by a defrag.

Only try one burning programme at any one time, some software doesn't like
cohabitation.

If not using the WMP software, disable it in the Services to prevent
possible errors.

Cheers,
Jerry

Hi, i am also experiencing similar problems with my discs. I used windows
media player for a while but i found that the discs would not play in my car
or my girlfriends car yet they play in my brothers car my hi-fi and my cd
walkman. So i installed musicmatch jukebox which was recommended to me by
this computer guy and the problem still persists. I've even changed disc
makes but to no avail.
