Hello....

I am connecting into a 2000 Server from an XP workstation over the internet. I connect the Wan Miniport from the workstation at the remote site and it connects and authenticates just fine, I followed the "How To Setup RRAS" documents on the server but I can not browse resources (shared drives) on the remote server. I simply want to map a drive to one of the shared resources (document directory on the server) over the connection.

The RAS enabled 2000 Server is NOT a domain controller and does NOT have active directory running, best I can tell its simply a stand alone server sharing drives to a workgroup, Is this the problem?. I seemed to remember that there were RAS properties (checkboxes) under individual User properties on other servers I have done this with..

Thanks in advance

A VPN connection is not the same as a LAN connection. It does not carry
LAN broadcasts (so you do not get automatic name resolution and browsing).
If the server is in a workgroup (and not running WINS or DNS), you will need
to add a HOSTS or LMHOSTS file to the client with entries for all machines
on the LAN which you want to contact. When you can resolve names, you can
see shares using net view \\machinename and map shares with net use
\\machinename\filename .
