Can anyone PEASE help me?

I am using the Windows XP Home. My computer has two DVD writers, neither of
which are able to play DVD-R movies for some reason.

Every time I put in a DVD-R movie XP suddenly shuts down. I use the Windows
Media Player. Nero and Pinnacle to view my DVD movies. Yet DVD+R movies will
play no problem along with all CDs and DVD-R AVI files.

Windows XP home just won't play DVD-R movies and shuts down the entire
computer.

Is there anyone out there that can please carefully guide me through the
steps of resolving this problem step-by-step, left click by right click. I
would really appreciate some succinct and clear instructions.

Hello I will give you some suggestions since you are a kiwi.. sounds
like perhaps a hardware issue, check your cpu temperature after a crash
and also hdd temperature if you can. also after a crash goto control
panel/admin tools/event viewer> then see if you have any errors in
there, under application or security. i would also check for malware
and see if there are any windows pacthes for your pc.

Do you have DVD playing software? For example Power DVD, InterVideo,
Nero Showtime. Nero Showtime is not included with the Nero OEM suite
that comes with the DVD RWs.
