The date and time setting keeps resetting itself to earlier
years/time. I reset it and it holds for a while (days) but then jumps
back?

New programs Installed keeps showing up despite the programs having
been installed ages ago and used regularly since?

Anyone come accross anything similar, Are they connected, is there
anything I can do to sort it? I am using Windows XP home with SP2

Time keeping in XP comes from the motherboard BIOS. Often as the motherboard battery slowly weakens the time clock looses its marbles.

It may be time to change the little battery on the motherboard.
