Can anyone help: Do I need to reinstall?

I have XP Pro on a multi-partitioned drive where I can no longer
access XP. I have decided to bite the bullet and blow out an Asian
Windows XP Home on the other partition that was previously installed.
I reloaded from scratch (formatted) XP Pro on that drive. However, I
have all my data and programs on my other Windows XP partition that I
want to run or boot from.

I tried to repair XP before I installed XP on the partition where the
Asian XP Home was. At first, XP did detect mky partition that I had XP
on. In attempting to repair the installation, XP hanged. I rebooted.

The next time I tried doing the same as above, but XP could not "see"
the other Windows XP. I then reformatted the other partitioned and
reloaded XP.

I tried to edit the boot file to prompt me which partition/XP I should
boot from. I got that far, but that was it. After hitting enter, I
got an error saying that the following file is missing or corrupt:
system32\drivers\ntfs.sys. I followed the instructions at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822800 and it didnt make a difference,
the same error remains. I had given up and now I am posting here to
see if I can salvage that XP directory?

Thanks

Done that previously several times everything is fine. That is not
the problem.

: Boot to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r on the drives.
