Can access websites with IE7

Hello,

I hit a Faceback webpage and believe that somehow I picked up some Malware.
now, I can't seem to access the Internet via IE. When I click on the IE link
to run Diagnostics, the errors point to Winsock and say that I'm not getting
or processing HTTP/S, and FTP traffic. I can ping URL's and IP addresses on
the internet. NSLOOKUP resolves website names to IP address with no problem.
So, it appears that IE actually is not getting or processing HTTP/S and FTP
packets.

NIC has been uninstalled/re-installed. Same problem.
WinXP has been re-installed (clean install with disk formatted). Same
problem.

I don't know the IPCONFIG prior to the problem starting, but now, I get a
wierd IP address (99.150.175.22). DHCP server is my DSL router/modem @
192.168.0.1.
I manually set IP address to typical 192.168.1.x for a home network. Same
problem.
Reset NIC to get IP config from DHCP and get the 99.X.Y.Z address above.

I'm pretty stumped after formatting and re-install of XP.

I think I saw this once before years ago and resolved it by resetting TCP/IP.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357 shows a manual reset of TCP/IP:

1. Open a command prompt.
2. At the command prompt, type the following command and then press ENTER:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
3. Reboot the computer.

Any opinions on if this will resolve my problem? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
DetRich

I forgot to add...

I attempted to uninstall/install TCP/IP.
Attempts to do so failed because the button for "uninstalled" was disabled.
Hmmm..

I had a very similar issue before where the winsocks were messed up and a
program called WinsockxpFix.exe would fix the issue. This may help you,
unfortunately the software hasnt had any new development but it still works
whenever I've needed to use it.

If you do a google for winsockxpfix or try:
majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372

Had a similar problem recently. Try uninstalling NIC and re-installing in
device manager. Have you installed a game recently that uses cheat
protection - I think it was called nprotect. Nightmare to remove but this
was at the root of the issue and could not get rid of it - ended up wiping
the system.

Also check that you don't have a proxy set up - Tools, Internet Options,
Connections, LAN Settings.
Cheers,
Jim
