Connect your camera to your computer via the USB cable. Power your camera
on. Wait 15-20 seconds. You should hear some beeping indicating that XP
recognized the camera. Click on My Computer and look under Devices with
Removable Storage. Your camera should be listed there. Click on it to open
it and then select all the files and copy to a folder on your hard drive.
Your Logitech webcam is listed under Scanners and Cameras when you open My
Computer, but not your Canon A 40. It will be listed under Devices with
Removable Storage.

.
I believe the camera AND scanner will be listed in the
ControlPanel/Printers and Other Hardware/Scanners and
cameras. That's where both of mine are and not in
Devices with Removable storage, because that's where my
card reader is listed as Drive "E".

What kind of camera do you have? Do you connect it to your computer via a
USB cable? Apparently not since you use a card reader.
This is a Canon A40. Most recent cameras connected via USB cable will be
listed under Devices with Removable Storage. Easiest way to download photos
with recent cameras.

.
I have three cameras and all are digital - Polaroid,
Canon and Konica, and all are USB. I use a USB hub and
use the Acquire feature to Select which camera I need to
download from. I also have a USB scanner and a USB card
reader. Only my Card Reader is listed in Devices with
removable storage as drive "E".

The issue is this. Do you connect your camera via your USB cable or do you
use your card reader to download the pictures from your memory card.
You can do it either way, a recent USB camera will show up under Devices
with Removable drive, just like your card reader does. No more no less. Some
prefer using a card reader instead of downloading directly from the camera.
Fine with me, but both are accessible from My Computer and Devices with
Removable Drives.
