Mobile phone technology seems to be progressing at an alarmingly fast rate. Not only will you be able to take pictures, you will also be able to scan documents and use your phone as a fax machine, according to NEC and the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Japan.

Using optical character recognition (OCR) software, the developers hope to make this possible. A number of pictures of the document will be taken and then reassembled to form the scanned image. This software will even allow for distortions of the page, according to NEC. However, the impact that this could have on copyrights will not be easy to solve.
