camera no longer works on computer

I am having a problem with my Kodak card reader. I bought it because for
some reason xp does not auto play with my kodak camera. It was working fine
for a long time but now is not seen by the computer. It is connected via usb
port. Computer is clean as far as virus/trojan checks. Not sure why all of a
sudden it won't work. Any ideas? Thanks

Lou,
Disconnect all your USB devices.
Rt click MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>View>Show
hidden devices>USB Controllers> rt click on each one and choose uninstall.
Restart and let XP reinstall them. Restart again and connect the USB
devices.

Hi Rich thanks for the help. Unfortunately it did not work. My camera is
supposed to be plug/play but only worked that way a couple times. I bought
the kodak card reader and it used to work just fine, now it doesn't work at
all but it still powers up.

I tried to go back and restore the computer to a time when I know it worked
but even my restore points are acting weird. The only restore point I get is
the current day. I cannot even go back to another month. All the settings
are the way they are supposed to be.

I ran my trojan shield/scan and there are no viruses or trojans. I can't
help but think this is all related though.

Up for suggestions before I disconect everything, put it in the yard, and
run it over with my jeep.

Lou, go to Control Panel>AdminTools>Services>Scroll down to Plug and Play
and make sure it's started. Do you have
Windows Update SP2 Installed? If no, try that. Make sure your system is
clean of Malware before you attempt it.

Hi rich and thanks again. Everything is enabled, (automatic). I do have
the sp/2 service pack. Now that I think of it though this happened after
another auto update, not sure if related or not. No spyware that spybot or
adaware could find. Getting frustrating but sure appreciate the help.

Is it possible that it is recognized but just not showing as a drive
letter or being assigned to a drive letter in use by something else?
Check in Disk Management for its presense and reassign a drive letter to
it if it's there.

Hi Rich,
Sorry for the delay and thanks again for the ongoing assistance. I did find
this error in the administrative error log, maybe it may shed some light on
the problem to you, pretty much greek to me here is what it says:

Product ESSAdpt - error 1905 Module D:\program files\kodak\kodak easyshare
software\bin\Escom.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT. Contact your support
personel

Also I have two hard drives d/c and the card reader shows up as removable
disc G H I and J as there are four different cards capable of being read by
this particular reader.

As I'm typing this I wonder if I inadvertently deleted something associated
with these drives by mistake. I tried removing the kodak software and
reinstalling it but to no avail.

Not sure how to reassign drive letters, perhaps you could walk me thru it?
