True, but it is written for a product produced by a company and
acquired by another company, Rose City Software.

Sorry I thought you were talking about Pegasus Mail there...
My mistake. :)

I am not sure if they have removed the spyware module either.. but I
don't trust anyone who put it in, in the first place... but then that is
just me.

If you run an older Windows version this is a pretty nice email client
that I hope is not timed to give out at a certain date.

The about notice in my installation says

what is time anyway?

I don't recall seeing this program mentioned.

I tried Pegasus and did not particularily like it. It seemed clunky
and unintuitive to me. They say they couldn't market this client, so
they are making it free. But the last blurb of the site says that are
working out the Win 2000\XP issues and plan on returning to shareware.

Calypso Email v3.3 ~4.12 megs
http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/calypso/

"With the ability to turn off display of HTML mail and an encrypted
address book, Calypso is immune to current email "worms" that
replicate themselves by harvesting email addresses from the Windows
Address Book and forwarding themselves to all of your contacts.
Combined with an outstanding array of features and an intuitive,
configurable interface, Calypso is the premiere Internet email
alternative.

Current Calypso features include:

Support for multiple email accounts
Configurable, intuitive interface
Support for POP and IMAP mailboxes
Automatic mailbox backup
Mailing list support
Superb mail filtering capabilities.
Blind Send capabilities
Address auto-completion when composing mail
Ability to turn HTML mail viewing on or off
New toggle button to view HTML email as HTML even while in text mode
Multi-language spelling support
Auto-response capability
Mail templates
Mail archiving
Optional password protection for mailboxes

Calypso Version 3.3 is currently available as freeware. Please note
that this version has some minor issues running under Windows 2000 and
Windows XP.

Rose City Software is hard at work developing an interim update which
will be distributed as shareware (try before you buy). This update,
available on or before July 2003, will fix the known issues for
Windows 2000 and XP users and include a number of other great
improvements. This update will set the stage for the major update to
Version 4.0 with many more program enhancements. We plan to make
Calypso the #1 choice for internet email!"

It's a shame if they elected to keep the cruddy old spyware in if this
is the case. It's a pretty nice program.

huh, I hadn't heard anything about spyware either. Anyone else get
any hits to Aureate / Radiate. This sounds kind of bogus to me.
Micro Computer Systems is reputable.

I'll want to withdraw the suggestion if it has spyware in it.

If anyone else tries it and finds any please sing out.

Aren't these two different programs (or, to be more exact, two
different versions)? I don't have the original mention of spyware
handy here, but wasn't that listing for a "Calypso Lite"? (I don't
recall seeing a date of that spyware confirmation on the page, either,
but I may have missed it.)

Wasn't the "Lite" version from back when the program was still being
marketed as shareware, the Aureate stuff perhaps being the "penalty" a
free user would suffer, somewhat like putting up with the ads in free
versions of Eudora?

I am not sure.. and will retrack my statement if they are different and or no
longer classed as spyware.... etc etc :)

I have never tried since finding this

Nice spyware site to bookmark:

I didn't catch this. I'm showing clean with Spybot though. The Aureate
/ Radiate was listed as confirmed in your link. I installed Calypso
again and Spybot still shows me clean. AdAware shows clean too.

I just installed SpyWare Blaster recently and his has possibly
intercepted the malware. SWB has a cookie by Aureate listed as one of
the protections. Pretty cool program!

I'm not sure if they removed the spyware, or if SWB stopped it in its
tracks. Maybe someone else who tries it can confirm one way or
another.

Time will tell.

Just set my system clock to the year 2025 and cranked up Calypso.
Everything is working fine. : ) By then we'll all be looking at video
mail anyway (as long as it's part of the isp's free service that is).

That was some misleading wording I typed up there. It's soooooo

thinking? That makes no sense at all to someone else."

Mine says that also. But the more I look around the more conflicting
statements I see about the status. Many are from sites that host the
file or links to it and some are in the license.txt and the Rose City
page.

Time will tell.

I've had no outgoing hits from Kerio so far. As long as it works
without doing anything other that fetching email I think I'll be very
happy with it.

I don't know where you guys got your copy but mine is direct from the
company and contains no spyware ... never has. Yes, I use spybot.

It's easy for people to make off the hand comments about a product they
know nothing about ... I just don't understand the hostile attitude in
this thread about this product.

After the trial period the program turned into a "lite" version.

There was a version many moons ago, that shipped with Aureate. But they
(MCS - Micro Computer Systems) removed it from later versions.

Rose City Software have bought the code from MCS, and will soon release it
as Courier (shareware) <http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/Courier/>

There are some who would say that everything does happen at once. :)
Anyway, I used Calypso 3 for a long time. I switched to M$ Outlook so I
could synch with my PPC. I have since discoverd that I do not really
need my e-mail to be portable so I just switched back. I really like this
program. Just my two cents YMMV.
BTW, does anyone know how to import my Outlook(not OE) address book?

P

plain_text

Mailbox \ Import Messages \ Microsoft Outlook Express
Seems to be for messages(.eml), not the address book.
No worries though, I can always do it hand. I do not have that many
people in it. :(
That wasn't in the docs, I just looked and it is there.
Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I am off topic now so I will shut
up.

Hi Judy. The link above has Calypso Light version 3 listed as
confirmed. I haven't tried that version, so I don't know. But spyware
is a pretty touchy topic here. I think many of us have seen authors
deploy some pretty low tricks over the years and we tend to shun the
products that have malwares. I wasn't familiar with either company or
the product.

But I agree, it seems to be a great program and it has no malwares I
can see, as was suggested about the light version.

I'm not reading or writing well today, sorry.

There is an import for a delimited file if the Outlook address book
can export this format.

Mailbox \ Addressbook \ Import

Or if Outlook can export to Eudora, Exchange or Netscape 3x format it
looks like Calypso can import any of these.
