call alert

Does anyone know of a program that will work on XP that will alert you of
incoming calls while I'm surfing the net? I have one phone line with call
waiting and a V92 modem but the software that came with is crap. I'm not
looking for a subscrition service like call wave or AOL call alert, just a
program that will notify me of an incoming call with the option to answer it
if I'm surfing. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, just can't find
anything searching google.

I might be wrong but I think you may need the right kind of modem to do
this. See your modem makers web site to see if they have anything on this?

Why should *I* be alerted when you get phone calls?

In order for what you're talking about to work, the ISP has
to support it, and you need a V.92 modem (which you have)
and the appropriate software. You say that the "software
that came with [the modem] is crap," but you don't say
what the software is, what kind of modem you're using, or
any other pertinent information. But as I said, if your
ISP doesn't support modem-on-hold, software isn't going to
help.
